Tomatoes

$8.00

1 plant/ gallon. Tomatoes are cold sensitive. We do not recommend planting them outdoors until June, and even then, with season extension tools like mini hoophouses or walls of water in combination with frost cloth. We plan to have 3.5” pots and gallons available at our 5/25 plant sale.

For seed saving, opt for open pollinated varieties. Seeds saved from hybrid varieties will likely not produce future generations of tomatoes with the same characteristics.

Varieties currently available for planting in greenhouses (that are above freezing at night!):

‘Clementine’: Indeterminate, hybrid. Estimated days to maturity in Central Oregon: 82 days. Unique orange cocktail tomato. Oval-round fruits avg. 2 oz. Plants produce high yields with appealing, sweet-tart flavor. Exceptional when halved and roasted! Can be picked to ripen when shoulders are green. Balanced plant works well indoors. Crack resistant and high resistance to Fusarium Wilt race 1 and Verticillium Wilt.

‘Dancing with Smurfs’: Indeterminate, open pollinated. Estimated days to maturity in Central Oregon: 79-84 days. Delicious and very unique dark-purple topped, red cherry tomato. This newly available tomato color is referred to as indigo. Disease resistant plants have a purple blush and easily grow to 6′. Dancing With Smurfs is one of the best tasting indigo tomatoes. The purple/black color of these tomatoes comes from a natural cross made by Jim Myers (professor and plant breeder at Oregon State University). His original releases were then further developed by many independent tomato breeders. This particular variety was bred by Tom Wagner from Everett, Washington, the founder of Tater Mater Seed, and the famous breeder of Green Zebra tomato. First offered commercially in 2012 by New World Seeds and Tubers.

‘Hot Streak’: Indeterminate, hybrid. Estimated days to maturity in Central Oregon: 84 days. Firm red slicer tomato with yellow stripes and outstanding flavor. Fruits avg. 6–12 oz., and have good shelf-life. Balanced plant with excellent fruit-set over a long season.

‘Sakura’: Indeterminate, hybrid. Estimated days to maturity in Central Oregon: 69 days. High resistance to Fusarium Wilt races 1, 2 ; Leaf Molds A-E, and Tomato Mosaic Virus. Intermediate resistant to nematodes. Real sweet tomato flavor and firmness without being hard. Among the first to ripen, Sakura keeps going all season long because of its disease resistance. Very tidy, compact plant fits well in tight spaces. Prolific yielder of bright red, shiny, medium-large cherry tomatoes.

‘Sungella’: Indeterminate, open pollinated. Estimated days to maturity in Central Oregon: 74-84 days. 1½-2” wide, sweet, orange globes are small but larger than cherry tomatoes. Plum-sized, 1-2 oz fruit with deliciously sweet flesh. Very productive and cold tolerant. A Sungold F1 dehybridization, Sungella is bigger and much more split resistant.

Consider adding a lower and lean wire trellis system in your greenhouse to maximize vertical growing space. We’ve got tomahawks with compostable twine and trellis clips available, too!
